Paris-based chef Nina Métayer has been voted the best pastry chef in the world by a jury of her peers – and is the first woman ever to receive the award.

The International Union of Bakers and Pastry Chefs recognised Métayer for her expertise in bakery, particularly her stunning galettes des rois, the latest collection of which will be released in time to celebrate the epiphany on January 6, as is traditional.

“I am delighted to represent France and to contribute to promoting the quality of the work of artisan bakers and pastry chefs around the world,” she said.

Among her stunning galettes des rois creations are L’Authentique and La Couronne, both veritable works of art. This year’s editions will be available to order on her website, Délicatisserie, from January 4, 2024. Sadly, delivery is only available in Paris… but the website is worth drooling over nonetheless! And if you can’t wait until you’re next in Paris to savour Métayer’s sweet treats, why not roll up your sleeves and have a go at making your own? You can brush up on your pastry skills – and your French! – by watching her in action on her YouTube channel, where she shares numerous mouthwatering recipes. If you’re feeling especially brave, you can even learn how to make one of her extraordinary galettes des rois!
